From Verona the road
costs the Adige river towards the north in a winding path
amongst vineyards that make the famous Valdadige Terra dei
Forti D.O.C. About 45 km. from Verona in the Trentino Alto Adige
region sits the estate or marquis Guerrieri Gonzaga.
The vast property
includes land cultivated with vineyards, gardens and hills that
border the province of Verona. In the estate there is a main
villa where the marquis and his family live and a hub once a I°
century convent now seat of the San Leonardo winery.
The three-hour tour
includes a walk through the garden, visit and explanation of the
winery and history of the estate, visit to the ancient chapel,
visit to the marquis's collection of tractors and utensils once
used in the farmhouse, visit to the cellars and taste of the
wine accompanied by tidbits. To complete the tour a restaurant
waits for us 4 kilometers from the estate where it is possible
to continue the tasting of more wines
The estate have been producing
wines since convent time: however in recent years the Guerrieri
Gonzaga family have focused their skills and attention on three
excellent wines;
San Leonardo a blend of Cabernet
Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot
Wine Spectator top listed
wine, called "Sassicaia of the North"
Villa
Gresti combining mainly Merot grapes with little Carmenere
Merlot
with 100% Merlot grape

Amarone Tour, Mazzi
winery, San Pere
The tour includes the
visit of a family oriented small winery in the Valpolicella
area. The winery in the little town of San Peretto hosts an
ancient flour mill which has now become a small museum of the
traditions and a family-run restaurant open only at weekends. .
The tour includes the visit and history of the estate, the visit
to the cellars and explanation of the making of Valpolicella and
Amarone, visit to the mill and taste of three wines (including
Amarone) and one grappa accompanied by breadsticks and cheese.
If tour falls on the weekend it is possible to stop over for
dinner and taste what Antonio's mother makes (she cooks
beautifully).
